Next to a company specific item coding, traditionally a result of the way a product assortment has developed over time within a company, more and more products also have a standard item number.
This number is registered by the manufacturer and used to identify and optimize the use of the product through a supply chain. In general they are referred to as a “barcode” as these codes appear in a barcode font on products to enable fast and correct recognition via scanning.
Examples are GTINs (Global Trade Item Numbers) like: EAN, UPC and IBAN numbers. These codes are used to communicate with customers and suppliers, in e-commerce scenarios like in EDI messages and when connecting with Marketplaces like Amazon or BOL ea. They also ease the physical handling of products via barcode scanning.
At the item maintenance the barcode ID of an item can be registered. It can be used on layouts, in the suggestion list when selecting an item in e.g. a sales order and exchanged with business partners and logistic solutions via CSV, XML and Restful API’s. At the item label, next to the barcode ID code itself also a barcode font can be placed in the layout for scanning purposes in Warehousing or Point of Sale scenarios.
The item barcode ID is available in all Exact for Wholesale Distribution and Exact for Manufacturing editions. Make sure to check the Exact Online App Center for related apps.
