Sales discounts for manufacturing

Written by Pieter Hamans on . Posted in Exact Online

Discounts can be entered for each line of a sales quotation, sales order or sales invoice. However, in the commercial practice we are sometimes required to provide a lump-sum discount, a percentage off the bottom line or an overall adjustment to a round number. These ‘bottom line discounts’ require entry fields, adjusted documents (quotation forms, sales order forms, invoice forms) and adjusted margin reports.

Entry fields and documents

The option to provide for bottom-line discounts has been developed for Wholesale Distribution Advanced and Manufacturing Advanced. The functionality is identical for the entry fields and layouts. The entry screens for quotations, sales orders and invoices contains an extension of the totals grid, where a discount percentage, a discount amount or an adjusted total can be entered:

The bottom-line discount and the adjusted totals can be printed on the layouts. A bottom-line discount may be recorded on a separate general ledger account that should be defined in the settings.

Shop order results

The (Manufacturing only) shop order results report provides an overview of all sales orders that contain manufactured items. The overview lists the order amounts, manufacture costs, invoice amounts and margins for the manufactured items in those orders. The amounts can be shown including or excluding the bottom-line discount.

The discount is distributed over the lines of the sales order pro-rated to the value of each line, as can be evaluated in the shop order results details.

The sales discounts will become available for all users of manufacturing advanced in the third quarter of 2014.
