Introducing the where-used report

There is a variety of reasons why we want to look up where we use make or buy parts in manufacturing. Sometimes parts become obsolete and need to be replaced in the BOMs where they are used. At other moments we wonder what the intended purpose of slow moving parts inventory could be. Are they used in current products, or have the products itself become history?

New feature for manufacturing basic and advanced

The where-used report will be realised as part of the roadmap item multi-level BOM support. Since the feature is also useful for those that work with single-level BOMs, it will become available both in Manufacturing Basic and Manufacturing Advanced.

A new “where-used” tab is added to the item card. When the item is used in a BOM version, the (first five) parent items are shown and the properties of the applicable BOM versions. With the “show all” link we navigate to the “where-used” report.

The where-used report can also be shown via a dedicated menu path. In the where-used report we can filter on child item, BOM version date and BOM version status. The where-used is single-level, meaning that the BOM versions of direct parents are included. Higher level parents (like end-products) will not be included.
