Empowering decision makers – the item card expanded

Written by Eugène Pattikawa on . Posted in Exact Online

As mentioned in a  previous blog, times have been changing for wholesalers over the last decade. The way they work is evolving, the markets they operate steadily becoming more and more global. A wide range of external factors now impact prices and margins, the relative ease with which a web shop-based wholesales business can now be set up providing competition across the entire business sector.

Many of these smaller  companies do not have a huge back office to support and are able to pass the savings on to their customers. Because of the additional pressure this competition is placing on traditional wholesalers, it is now extremely important that users have direct access to the infomation essential to effective sales decision making.  In most cases this involves:

  • What size is the margin between the purchase price and the sales price?
  • What range of sales prices and price agreements do I have?
  • Do I have this item on stock?
  • What is the projected stock for this item taking the current stock and pending purchase and sales orders into account?

This kind of information is accessable in Exact Online but originally had to be retrieved from several places. Following research we undertook with a number of our controlled release customers, we discovered that this was not ideal. So, in order to better meet the needs of our users, we have significantly extended the item card.

Via the customize link it will be possible to add extra information. The development is still in the final stages, but by the end of 2010 you’ll have the relevant information you require within a single screen.

The stock position information is already available in the current release. By clicking on the quantities for current stock, planning in and planning out you can zoom in to a range of detailed overviews. Transactions list overview for the item (current stock), planned purchases (planning in) or your pending sales orders (planning out) can be checked.

The remaining improvement will be brought to the current release over the next few weeks. You’ll be able to add an overview of your registered sales prices per item, price agreements per customer and a purchase section – showing the margin between what you pay for your stock items and the price you sell them for.

These new summaries are designed to give you the insight and the flexibility required to make the right decisions quickly and in a properly informed way. If you have any comments or suggestions for how we could further empower our sales and stock overviews we’d love to hear from you. Please tell us what you think!
