How to show your reports in the Exact Synergy App for iPhone or iPad

Written by Michiel Dorjee on . Posted in Exact Synergy

The Exact Synergy App version 1.1 and higher contains very nice features. One of them is the possibility to show SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports on your iPhone/iPad. Under a new menu, option ‘Reports’ you can view all your reports on your mobile IOS device. In this article I will explain how this can be done.

First of all you need to make sure that you have an environment with Exact Synergy Enterprise product update 244 or higher. Secondly the Reporting Services Integration solution needs to be enabled. Next you need to have the Exact Synergy App version 1.1 or higher installed on your mobile IOS device which is configured to connect to the Exact Synergy Enterprise environment. Now we can start with the required steps so that you can view the reports via the Exact Synergy App.

  1. Create the role with the description ‘Sneak preview iPhone’; if it doesn’t exists yet
  2. Assign this role to yourself; if it is not already assigned to you
  3. Open a report, check the ‘Show as web part’ option and save the report
  4. Repeat step 3 for all other reports you would like to view via the Exact Synergy App
  5. Go to your default Homepage
  6. Add a report widget
  7. Select the report you would like be shown in the report widget
  8. Enter a recognizable title for the report widget and save it
  9. Repeat steps 6, 7 and 8 for the other reports you would like to view via the Exact Synergy App
  10. Get your mobile IOS device and start the Exact Synergy App
  11. Select the tile ‘Reports’ and pick the report you would like to view

Now you can view reports anywhere and anytime!

We still have several ideas how to make this feature even more powerful and are open for feedback. Therefore this functionality is still only available via the ‘Sneak preview iPhone’ role for now.

Tip: Having a lot of reports on your default Homepage results in a longer loading time of it. You can reduce this by collapsing the report widgets so that they won’t be rendered when you access your default Homepage.

    Dear Sunil,

Thanks for making this sneak preview more known. It has already been there for a while.

I like the ability to have it in the app, but i don’t like the reports om my default homepage.

Some of the reports take some time to show, which means that every time i go in synergy, all the reports on the default homepage are run. Slowing my homepage down.

Could there be an other way to make the reports available?

    Kind regards,

    Martijn

You could set another page as default homepage. Or minimize (collapse) the report on the page so that it does not load when you open it.

      Regards,
      Willem

    Hi,

Are there specific funtions you need to give to the role ‘Sneak preview iPhone’? Or did I miss somethingelse?
I got an error when trying to open the reports tile. It says: ‘Parameter count mismatch’.
I got the role, I got a reportwidget specified and it shows data when I open it in my browser on the computer.
Can you tell me what is wrong?

    Kind regards,
    Willem

‘Parameter count mismatch’ is the error in the system log from Synergy. A Validation error occurs in the app saying: Error there is an error. Please contact your System administrator.

      Regards,
      Willem

Hi Willem, it seems that there are 1 or more parameters missing when opening this specific report via the Exact Synergy App. Can you please report this to the Support department with full details? E.g. version and report definition/configuration. This way we can follow up accordingly. Thanks.
