Exact configurator – Documents extension is coming!

Written by Michiel Dorjee on . Posted in Exact Synergy

As you may or may not know we have been working in release 252 for the extension of documents and I can happily announce that the feature will be available in release 252. This was quite a big project and I would like to congratulate our development team for delivering this software.

The documents extension will be working in the configurator engine in the same way as all the other extensions will work.

Select the extension for document.
DocumentExtend

There you can add your fields and buttons like any other extension.

The fields will be available in a new tab in the document types. For easy maintenance an new entry for document types has been created within the configurator, where you will only see the document types belonging to your configuration. Of course through the documents menu you can also modify existing document types.
LinkingDocType

At the document type level can be set whether a field is optional, mandatory  or not used. Linking a document type to your deployment set will deploy the document type to the end user environment and the fields used in your configuration.

After setting the document type, the field will be available in the document. DocumentExtension

In the coming weeks I will inform you on how we will handle Synergy Office Integration.

Should you have any questions about this solution, do not hesitate to contact me at ruud.aalders@exact.com or add comments to this post.

PS: The extension will also be available for SDK developers!

Great to hear some news and see some new things coming in what I still believe is the “flagship product” of Exact. Currently document management already is quite complex and now you are offering the possibility to extend this complexity, maybe it’s a lack of my knowledge but what has been the business driver to develop this?

Could you provide me with some examples how this really benefits a customer?
Since it has been quite a big project you could meanwhile also use this time to simplify, isn’t that what all customers really want?

Curiosity drives this reply, tell me, what is this really gonna bring?

    Big step Ruud, congrats!

    @Barry van der Meij:
Picture this. I created a new entity with Configurator. I receive an email regarding this entity which I save in Synergy. In Synergy I want to link the entity to the document. This was not possible until now! Now (I hope) we can extend the documenttype with a reference field to the entity, enableing us to link the entity to the document, the same way you were already able to link an account, project, item etc. So it’s a great approvement!

      Hi Gary,

You are correct. You can now link the document to a reference. But also you will be able to link your document to for example a cost center. An entity that isn’t supported in the not configured documents module or multiple projects.

@Barry, as we discussed over the phone, this will open up a lot of possibilities, especially for a development partner like Nobel. In my next product blog I will tell you more about SOI. Also you will be able to use it in other SDK solutions since we enable it there as well.

      Regards,
      Ruud.

Just received a call from Ruud in which he explained me the link to the configurator. It was my misunderstanding that caused my questions, happy to have answered them now! @ Nobel we most of the time use another solution called the solution builder which carries the project entity so no need there for these adjustments.

Ruud also told me some other improvements on the SOI, that will certainly help us. Remains the simplicity stays at the same level at this point of time, which in my opinion still is a pitty. Looking forward to enhancements there!

SOI, Have there been improvements to SOI updating yet, This remains the #1 issue with SOI, that during any Updates to Synergy Administrators have to got PC to PC reinstalling SOI mainly because SSO is not developed for SOI. Either store the credentials so that when it updates it can be done my the user or Utilize AD so that it can use the credentials of the person logged in PLEASE.. If you need details i would be more then welcome to show you why its soooo bad and I could show you how to adjust your code so that it could easily be made better.

      Hi Shawn,

I think Martin explained the group policy update to you last time, correct? Did that not work for you?

      Regards,
      Ruud.
