Good looking, great performance, easy to use: The Exact Synergy app for iPhone and iPad will be in the Appstore soon! (since June 2011 the App is available in the App Store)
Last couple of months I earned my salary by playing around with my iPhone. Sounds good, right! I have been working on the Exact Synergy app for iPhone and iPad. This week we uploaded the app to the Appstore which is now waiting for approval by Apple.
With the Exact Synergy app for iPhone and iPad we aim to deliver you the functionality you most frequently use or which comes in handy when you are not behind your desk. Think about managing your workflow, and creating new requests. You can view your accounts and click on the address to navigate to it. View your agenda, book your billable hour, enter your vacation request and directly see how many days will be deducted. And… file your expense claim, a process described already a while ago! The Synergy iPhone app offers you much more, but you can find this out for yourself pretty soon!
The Exact Synergy app for iPhone and iPad is free to use by all Synergy users and is available for both Exact Synergy (asp) (version 397+) and Exact Synergy Enterprise (PU 244+).

Will we need any additional software on the Synergy server to feed this app? Or does it work on a standard Synergy installation without further configuration?

You need some files on the server side. The files will be automatically available when you update your Synergy environment. the files will be available as of PU 244 for Synergy Enterprise and 397 for Synergy asp. we will make the files a part of the update before we launch the app. No further configuration needed!

We are now dependend of the approval time of Apple, which should take between 10 and 14 days.

Hi Tijmen,
The app works on both iPhone, iPod and iPad. We have customized the screens for Ipad, so it looks good on that device in full screeen mode as well. We did not add any iPad specific designing though.
As for the functionality we offer, the blog already describe some on a very high level. Any specifics you want to know?

Look good but room for improvement
Creating a new request I don’t like the fact that security level and priority are defined as numbers when u want to adjust; can u introduce the terms so people can easily identify them?
Also duration of request does not auto calculate when start and end time entered.
What about document support? Later version?

Does it work with https? We have the right version of e-synergy but can’t get to work.

As for documents, they are in the App already. You can find them via the account card.

It really looks great. Of course it still needs improvement, but it is a good start.
I think you really need to get get workflow functionality to work like in the reall Synergy.
- Custom made selections now are shown by a number (eg. a list of reasons where you choose the sixth option results in a number 6, instead of the description).
- I cannot add a timestamp in a comment, which I consider essential to separate remarks.
- Searching for documents to link to a workflow results in an error; it seems to expect a GUID?!
- I’d really like to search for documents directly from the main menu
Nevertheless a great start!
Hope to see new iOS and Android versions soon!

Hi Yarko,
we are working on a version 1.1 for the iPhone app. in this version we are picking up some bugs and small enhancements. one of the features we are looking into is to add a timestamp button to the keyboard. Custom fields is on the list to be solved. Currently you can only link a document to a request when you first filled in the account. this hard-coded dependency will also be removed and will be based on dependency settings of the request type. Planning for version 1.1 to be GA is around September.

We have a https server for the Synergy (ASP version) and whenever I tried the Ipad app I get the error that Authentication is needed. The only solution I get from Spanish supprt is to change the server as http as they don’t know how to handle it. Is any way the Ipad app to recongnise the certificate of the server?

Hi Lluis,
It is also possible to use a https server. You can simply put it into the url in the iphone app, for example https://localhost/synergy. The message ‘Authentication is needed’ indicates that the username or password or domain is not correctly filled. You can try to fill domain\username in the username field in the Iphone app and empty the field of the domain.

My comment is that we completely neglected our strategic Microsoft platform, which is weird. In business environment, there are crowds that run their smarts on Windows Mobile or Phone 7 … What do you think?

Looking to the current mobile market, it is Android and iOS that dominate the market. All other platform only have small percentage of the market. Windows phone is a potential candidate to become an important player in the market and we will keep an eye on the developments there.
