Multi-browser compatibility – where are we now?

Written by Robin den Buurman on . Posted in Exact Synergy

We are moving forward with the multi-browser compatibilty and it’s time for an update. As you know our goal is to support the following browsers:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer
  • Google Chrome
  • Apple’s Safari
  • Mozilla Firefox

In my previous blog I shared with you some important improvements in the multi-browser compatibility. Among others we have added a new document editor that enables you to create and edit documents, you could as well create and edit workflow or view Microsoft SQL Server Reports.

In the product update 245 we added new functionalities that are multi-browser compatible. You can now view and edit your homepage and customize menus in your preferences. Moreover, the personnel cards and search functionality, when searching for people, accounts and documents, are now compatible with multiple browsers.

If you would like to know more about the changes regarding multi-browser compatibility in the product update 245, watch this video.

The only fully supported browser is Internet Explorer. While some functionality may be available in other browsers, they are not officially supported.

    Hi JDM,
I have good hope that when we support the four major browsers (in terms of marketshare) Opera will surely also function better together with Synergy Enterprise however we need to draw the line somewhere. In case the marketshare of Opera significantly grows either on the desktop or in the mobile world we will rethink our strategy.

    Thanks for your feedback!

Hello I am working on Apple and i have to switch to VMware to be able to register my hours via Windows in IE.
I would like to know the current status on the different browser support, especially for Safari and/or Firefox.

    Hi Robin,
Any news on support on PSA functionality (can imagine that the new functionality and screens, eg hour entry, are compatible)?
Am I right in the PSA field?

What are the main functions that do NOT work?
I have a prospect with 60 consultants working with Mac’s. Would like to tell them the hour entry screen is accesible with safari…

    Let me know.

    Rob,

new screens that were built from scratch (like hour/expense entry, hour approval, etc) will work in all modern browsers.

Is there any progress in the multi browser support since this blog?

As a Synergy Enterprise user, I am looking forward to use all monitos sections on the account card for instance. This is up to now not supported.

    Thanks for your answer!

@Stephan, in the roadmap for 2012 we have planned to support 85% of all the pages (ordered by most used) for the web browsers Chrome, Safari for Mac and Firefox.

    @Sunil 7 months later I’m still a curious customer 😉
Is it possible to give more information about the multi browser progress?

Especially for iPad users that don’t use the app it’s very valuable!

@Stephan, we acknowledge the increasing demand and the speed of the adopting other web browsers than Internet Explorer. Mid-January 2013 we can communicate more about the timeline and deliverables of this roadmap topic. We appreciate your feedback and definitely have the intention to act on this need.

“the roadmap for 2012 we have planned to support 85% of all the pages (ordered by most used) for the web browsers Chrome, Safari for Mac and Firefox.” – is it still an actual plan?

@User, we are currently determining the scope of the project and capacity for it. After that we start planning. It’s indeed our intention to address this project.

    Hi Robin,

I read once this blog and remembered myself about the Multi-browser compatibility which included Safari. Now we are testing product update 252 but we became a bit disappointed about the results. Our expectations were that also Safari on the iPad would work fine now, but when I read back this blog I see that sometimes there is mentioned ‘Safari on Mac’ and sometimes only ‘Safari’. It is a lesson for myself to read more carefully, but I also would like to ask you to mention next which well-known browsers will not be supported.

Information about what will not be solved, is also valuable information.

      Hi Dave,
There seems to be different rendering engines for the different Safari browsers; making them all basically different browsers since they are not 100% compliant with each other. We have chosen the Mac version specifically because we have a large customer base using Mac. I always try to communicate as accurate as possible but in this case missed the opportunity to explain the differences.

Sorry to see you disappointed, we never intended that, hope you can still utilize the multi browser functionality in other situations.

      Regards,
      Robin
