Central master data

In a previous blog post How to maintain your master data centrally?, I asked feedback about central master data management. Is this a big issue at this moment, and what challenges are you facing. As you can see at the previous blog post, quite some replies where posted. So I would like to thank everyone for sharing their feedback.
All feedback on this topic confirmed our assumptions, accounts and secondly items are the most important master data, to be maintained centrally. That’s why we decided to start with accounts and aim on creating a prototype, so we can share and discuss the direction we are heading for. The prototype is based on Exact Synergy Enterprise (ESE), and multiple Exact Globe (EG) divisions.
Currently, at maintain Accounts in ESE you can define only a debtor code on divisional level:
We started adding fields to the Division ‘tab’, so it is possible to define different data for the specific divisions. For example, it will be possible to define on Divisional level who will be the manager of this account.
The exchange of the data will be done by Exact’s connectivity framework. As explained in this blog post Connecting Exact with other applications, exchanging data via XML is not the solution to establish easy, standard connections between Exact’s applications and/or other applications. The main reason is that those possibilities are not standardized and /or do not work real-time.
In my next blog I aim on sharing the first visuals on the prototype!
If you have any questions/remarks or you would like to share topics we definitely should take into account concerning maintain/exchange accounts, do not hesitate to reply to this Post.

I am looking forward to see an overview of the fields which you want to manage out of Synergy and which fields you want to manage in the specific Globe division.
I am even wondering how you will make it clear for users which of these fields are managed out of Synergy and Globe.

Dave,
Thanks for yor interest in this topic.
I can imagine you want to see the list of fields you are able to manage for a specific division. I will show the first version soon.
But the second question is not clear. What do you mean with ‘fields managed out of Synergy and Globe’?

Richard

Richard,
Of course I don’t know how your ideas will looks like, but I can imagine that a few fields will be managed in Globe and some other fields in Synergy.
What are your ideas to make it clear for the users, which fields are manage from which system? One system should be leading.
For example when you create an item in Synergy and it has to be created in 3 Globe divisions, where will the field ‘item description’ be managed.
I hope this is more clear for you.
Kind regards,
Dave

Dave,
Synergy Enterprise will be leading. The goal will be to maintain as much as possible in Synergy Enterprise. If we take Accounts as example, I can’t think of a field that I need to maintain in Exact Globe.

Richard,
What if this account has different VAT codes (NL/PL/FI Globe databases), price lists, representative in the different Globe administrations?
How do you think to manage this information?
